W8: I Want To Create A Mission-Based Global Community

A funny title considering my first note from my weekly reflection is “I’m spending too much time on the big vision, I need to focus on the small steps”. That comment is directly tied to the time I spent thinking about The Network State and crypto. I shouldn’t be wasting any energy on that now. They’re ideas I can revisit later. The title of this post is from a series of events.

What happened was I was having a text conversation with my friend Z. In one of the messages, I went on a rant about community and how much we, all people, collectively suck at it. That specific message turned into a note in my journal where I pointed out that I’m not really honest with myself about what I want to do. I want to create something that enhances lives, creates community, counters the poisonous parts of capitalism, and works to eliminate oppression and exploitation (of people and the environment).

Then yesterday I started going through old YouTube videos to get ideas for next month’s writing project. One of the videos that stuck out was titled “A Life Dedicated to Education, Tribe Building and Gaming”. I decided to watch the video before writing this. (Note: Hoy shit was I scatterbrained!) This led to the thought “What’s the difference between tribes and community?” That led me to this guy’s blog post where he essentially shits on the popular use of “tribes”. I agreed with it. Tribes are a little too leader and we’re all the same focused, whereas communities are more idea and diversity-focused.

This series of events led me to a little more clarity in what I’m trying to accomplish. A “mission-based global community”. This actually helps with another question I was asking myself last week…

Habit Builders or Core Members?

There’s a superficial version of Way of the 108 that just focuses on helping people build habits, routines, and rituals. People sign up, they pay some money, and I help them with their habit-based goals, and when it’s all done they go back into the world with new habits and maybe a new system (108-day cycles) to live a better life.

Then there’s the deeper version of Way of the 108 where a person gets on board with living in 108-day cycles, studies, and perhaps improves the philosophy I’ve created, they want to become a person that helps people form new habits and recruit new flow’ers, they notice 108s in their life and will sometimes see them as signs, they hold offline events, and they become totally aligned with their community’s collective vision.

Whether I focus on one or the other doesn’t really change that I’ll be using habit creation/personal development as my funnel for finding new people. What is does change is the messaging I use throughout the sales funnel (website, emails, etc.)

I’m pretty sure I’ve decided to focus on core members BUT…

An Accountability AI

I can’t remember how much I’ve mentioned this, but I found some guys who are building (well… built) an accountability bot that works through WhatsApp. I tested it, gave some feedback, and spoke with one of the founders. After some time went by and had another call with both founders and they liked the idea I gave them of having an accountability partner or coach along with the AI to give it some human flavor. I might end up helping them do a test run of the coach, habit builder, bot triangle. If I do this, and it works, it should increase the number of people I can effective help at one time. I could still make core members the focus, but during testing I would be working with whoever wants help making new habits.

ChatGPT Image

I need to make a blog post of all of the images it’s made with me at a desk. ChatGPT has “memories” and it influences the responses. When I told it to make an image of the above blog post, this is the first thing it made.

Me at a desk

I started a new chat and said “Don’t use past chats or memories.” It was like “OK!” and then it made this:

Me at a desk again

Then I said “You used past chats and memories here” and it went “Oh yeah! I did! Here’s a new one.”

Me figuring out the best path forward? I guess?

It claims that this used no past chats and memories… I suppose I’ll believe it. Maybe I’ll start giving it some ideas along with the blog post if I have something in mind. The above is good enough for now.

  1. I still think you should look at Susan Pierce Thompson and the Bright Line Community. Her focus is weight loss, but she’s all about building community. She started small. Was a full time professor while she was building the Bright Line Community. She now does it full time and has staff people. I also think she tends to be manic. I hope the medication issue doesn’t derail you. I know it’s a crap shoot. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it helps, until it doesn’t.
